What is Medi-Cal?
Medi-Cal is the official nickname of the California Medical Assistance Program, California's Medicaid program. Medi-Cal provides health and dental coverage for qualified individuals and families in California.

California state dental health coverage used to be called Denti-Cal, and you may still hear people say Denti-Cal. It doesn't really matter what it's called, the fact that Californians who are eligible for Medi-Cal receive comprehensive dental coverage is a great thing for teeth!

Who is eligible for Medi-Cal Dental?
Medi-Cal and Medi-Cal dental provide coverage for qualified residents of California, including families, seniors, persons with disabilities, children in foster care, pregnant women, and childless adults living in California with limited income and resources.

What does Medi-Cal Dental Cover?
Medi-Cal Dental covers all medically-necessary dental care.1. Do I need to enroll in Medi-Cal Dental benefits?
If you have Medi-Cal, you are already automatically enrolled in the Medi-Cal Dental benefits program also known as Denti-Cal. You can bring in your Medi-Cal card to any Western Dental office to receive care.

Are these benefits for Adults or Kids?
No matter your age, you can keep your gums and teeth healthy, strong and pain-free. Western Dental welcomes family members of every age in our offices, and can refer you to one of our 24 affiliated pediatric-only offices.

Does Medi-Cal cover every treatment?
Even with expanded benefits, there are some dental treatments Medi-Cal does not cover such as bone restoration and implants among others. That is why Western Dental created a supplemental coverage specifically for Medi-Cal beneficiaries. It offers greatly reduced co-payments on treatments that Medi-Cal does not include.

What is "Medi-Cal Older Adult Expansion"?
As of May 1, 2022, adults 50 years of age or older who are currently enrolled in restricted scope Medi-Cal (often called Emergency Medi-Cal) are eligible for full scope Medi-Cal benefits. Immigration status does not matter, but all other Medi-Cal eligibility rules still apply. This includes free and low-cost dental services.
